The Include Me 2 Club was established in 2010
It was set-up by Ashley and Paul McIlvenny after a community mapping excercise and consultation with potential members from across local day centres and supported housing projects.
With over 12years of working in the social care sector Ashley identified the need for some sort of social club or activity based programme in the community for adults with additional support needs as there was very little on offer.
With over 15yrs of working in Community Development, Sports Development and Youth Work sectors Paul established the foundations, structure and governance models to take the organisation forward.
Starting in November 2010, the first night attracted around 40 people, within 6 weeks that had doubled to 80 within the first 6 months, again increasing to 100-120 each week within the 9-12 months period. The Club continued to grow and a venue change was needed to accomodate the increasing membership, with an average of 150 members attending weekly the club was going strength to strength. We used to joke about it, if anymore members joined we would be using the SSE Hydro each week.
Alongside the weekly social club, there was special events, fundraisers, trips and outings along the way.
Onwards and Upwards . . .
Since then we have seen SDS (Self Directed Support) take effect in Scotland, empowering people to choose a service, package and opportunities right for them, sadly there is still very little on offer and we are looking to change that in the coming years, be establishing a new range of services in a social enterprise approach - becoming Our Future Strategy - Our Future, Our Way, Our Say.
